Moisturisers or moisturizers  are complex mixtures of chemical agents mainly designed to make the outside layers of the skin (epidermis) softer and more flexible, by increasing its hydration (water content) by reducing evaporation. Of course happening skin lipids and sterols as well as artificial or natural oils, humectants, emollients, lubricants, etc. may be part of the composition of commercial skin moisturizers. They normally are accessible as commercial products for cosmetic and therapeutic uses, but can as well be made at home using usual pharmacy ingredients.
Moisturizers are a prevention  and also treat dry skin, protect sensitive skin, enhance skin tone and texture, and mask imperfection.
